Why She Gives: Supporting WHEAT and Feeding Families in Our Community
After moving back to Connecticut from Arizona, Sassy found herself in an unexpected situation when the state sent her check back to Arizona. She came to WHEAT expecting to feel embarrassed and discouraged, but instead, she was met with kindness, warmth, and a willingness to share.
During her visit, everyone made her feel welcome and comfortable as she received food to help stretch her budget. The experience left such a positive impression on her that she knew she wanted to give back as soon as she was able. She began thinking about how she could help other neighbors in the future who may be facing similar challenges and trying to make their food dollars stretch.
Sassy shared that WHEAT has “saved her” on more than one occasion. Today, she wants others to know that there is no reason to feel embarrassed or ashamed about seeking help. Her message to anyone who may need support is simple:
“Don’t be embarrassed, don’t be shy. Just come on down and get yourself some really good food.”
